Too short

While the gameplay was good, the whole game seemed like a bit of a tutorial for more levels rather than a game in and of itself. I would love to see this game done with a larger level pack, since I was able to finish the whole thing in a matter of a few minutes.

I did run into a bug where releasing the mouse outside of the game causes items to stick and become un-draggable. To see this for yourself, drag an item off the stage (ie. out of the flash movie's bounds) now release the mouse, then move your mouse back in and click the item. Now try to move it.

mooseisloose responds:

Yeah if I could think up more levels I would've made more, but I suck at level design. Thanks for picking up on that big, I have no idea what's causing it though :s

Not working properly...

When I try to highlight a word it pops up an error in the score text field. All I can read is "Call to a member function scoreHighlight() on".

You can't quit once you've opened a board. You should add a button that brings you back to the menu.

Also, I noticed below that the problem could be caused by not accepting 3rd party cookies, but why are you even using cookies for this game? Doesn't seem necessary, not DURING a game at least, maybe to save highscores or something when you beat it...

redjag responds:

You're right, it was relying on cookies. I've put up a version that doesn't rely on cookies. Thanks for the review!

One flaw

This game really is well done, but there's only one thing I don't like about it: How long it takes for Hippolyta to "recover" from doing something. When you encounter a hoplite, farmer, branch, duelist, rock, tent sort of combo it's not hard to know what to press, but to start early enough that she'll finish each action RIGHT after you pass each obstacle to be ready for the next.
Maybe I'm just complaining because my reaction time isn't the greatest and I prefer strategy/puzzle games, but it seems like a pretty big flaw.

I'm also not quite sure why a game as simple as this was built with a game engine, but maybe there's something really complicated going on that I just can't see, who knows.

Evil-Dog responds:

every decent game needs some kind of game engine, for inputs, the gameloop, helper functions, tile handling, sounds, etc....and it's my game engine so...

*thumbs up*

First- Awesome game, I was addicted until my computer froze. XD

Second- "This game can lag like a motherfucker on older machines. Either download it, or change the graphics settings in the Pause menu."
So where can I download it? I'm not in the mood for sifting through Newground's source code right now. lol

JohnnySedona responds:

Hopefully this isn't agains the rules, but you can DL it by visiting
www.turbogames.com/swf/drunkenmasters .swf (without the spaces)
And choosing "Save Page As" from the file menu.

OK...

It was well done, but it could have just as easily been put into an HTML page.
And I've seen that kind of tutorial in countless places on the net, so you're just adding another one to the pile.
Felt like there should have been more to the tutorial, maybe explain hitTest, and the generation of the "enemy dots".

ETERNALGAM3R responds:

I could have explained those as well but I wasn't going to go all out on my first tutorial and then if it sucked I would have wasted a lot of time that I could have been doing something else. It was just something short, sweet and to the point.

Seems good

But I wouldn't know, considering I can't really play it.
I can't interact with anything in my inventory once it's in there.
You should try testing your game on all platforms next time.

Paranoia responds:

Sorry, I'm really clueless about these bugs. It works totally fine for most people.
